Was walking through Larkspur Crescent, Yeovil this morning when I found a female Ring Ouzel with some Blackbirds in the NE corner of the crescent. I managed a couple pictures on my phone, but I failed to relocate it when I returned an hour later with my camara.

Really surprising find for Yeovil in February! I have encoutered a partial albino blackbird in Yeovil several years ago that resembled a ring ouzel, but todays bird showed the perfect throat pattern, along with pale-edged wing feathers and in-flight the bird showed a long tail, giving it a fieldfare-like jizz. The bird also gave typical ring ouzel flight calls when flushed.

Went to Seaton Marshes this morning but failed to locate the green-winged teal. However did see the Glossy Ibis but otherwise nothing worthy of note.

Had a look around Exmister and Powderham Marshes late afternoon. Best species managed was a very distant Short-Eared Owl seen from the cycle path north of the car par. Also had 2 each of Barnacle Goose, Bullfinch and 2 Kingfisher, 3 Mistle Thrush and singles of Peregrine and Pintail.

Went back over to the Openspace for a couple of hours but despite a more extensive search, still failed to locate any YBWs. Only birds of note were singles of Grey Wagtail and Blackcap.

Spent an hour and a half on the Openspace looking for the Yellow-Browed Warblers without success. Did however see a Treecreeper alongside the stream between the cycle path and Larkhill Road, the first I have recorded at the site in several years. Also of note was 2 Grey Wagtails, a male Bullfinch, 3 Song Thrushes, 2 Great-Spotted Woodpeckers and 2 Goldcrest.

Stopped off at Battery Point, Portishead midday today and had distant views of the flock of Purple Sandpipers on the opposite side of the bay south of the point. Saw little else of note.

14th January 2016

Went back over to the Openspace for a couple of hours around midday. Saw singles of Yellow-Browed Warbler and Siberian Chiffchaff, and also a Song Thrush and a male Bullfinch.
